Aftercare

Looking after your result.

You'll get personalised aftercare at your appointment. This page is your reference afterwards. If you're ever unsure, just ask. It is always better to ask.

Aftercare that applies to every treatment

  • Keep the treated area clean. Wash your hands before touching your face.
  • Avoid makeup over the injection points for at least 12 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours to reduce bruising/swelling risk.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, sunbeds and very hot showers for 48 hours.
  • No facials, chemical peels, microneedling, laser or other facial treatments for two weeks.
  • Use SPF daily.
  • Bruising, redness, tenderness and small bumps at injection points are normal in the first few days.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours.

Contact me if you notice: spreading redness, heat, increasing pain, a temperature, or anything you're worried about. It is always better to ask.

Go to A&E immediately if you develop: any change to your vision, severe headache with visual symptoms, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Anti-wrinkle treatment aftercare

First four hours

  • Avoid rubbing, massaging or applying pressure to the treated areas.
  • You may gently use the treated muscles (frowning, raising your brows).

First 24 to 48 hours

  • No strenuous exercise.
  • No facial massage, and avoid resting your face on your hands.
  • Avoid hats, headbands or goggles that press on treated areas.

What to expect

  • Small raised bumps at the injection points settle within an hour or so.
  • Changes start appearing at around five to ten days.
  • Full effect is usually at two weeks. Please don't judge your result before then.
  • A review appointment at around two weeks is a good idea, especially for your first treatment.

Contact me if you notice

  • A drooping eyelid or eyebrow, significant asymmetry or unexpected symptoms.
  • Double or blurred vision.
  • Difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing (seek urgent medical attention).
  • Marked asymmetry that persists beyond two weeks.

Dermal filler aftercare

First six hours

  • Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the area for 48 hours.
  • Avoid wearing makeup.

First 24 to 48 hours

  • Sleep slightly elevated up on an extra pillow to reduce swelling.
  • Avoid excessive heat and direct sun for 48 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.

First two weeks

  • Avoid facials, peels, microneedling, laser or radiofrequency.
  • Avoid dental treatment (where possible) for two weeks either side of filler, particularly around the lips and lower face.

Lips specifically

  • Expect swelling for 24 to 72 hours. This is normal and is not your final result.
  • Apply a cool pack wrapped in a clean cloth for 10 minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly.
  • Stay hydrated and keep the lips moisturised with a simple balm from the day after.
  • If you get cold sores, tell me prior to treatment.

What to expect

  • Swelling peaks at around 24 to 48 hours and settles over the following week.
  • Small lumps or unevenness in the first two weeks are common while the product settles.
  • Final result is at four weeks. A review at two to four weeks is recommended.

Contact me immediately if you notice

  • Skin that goes white, blanched, dusky, grey or mottled.
  • Pain that is severe, increasing, or out of proportion to what you'd expect.
  • Blistering or a spot that looks like an ulcer.
  • Unusual coolness in the area.
  • Rapidly increasing swelling.

These can be signs of a vascular occlusion and need urgent assessment. Contact me immediately, day or night.

Urgent contact and attend A&E

If you develop any change in vision (blurred vision, double vision or loss of vision) or any severe eye pain.

Later on, contact me if you develop new lumps, swelling or tenderness weeks or months after treatment.
